Create a profile and set its options
This guide shows you every way to create a profile, then walks through each option you can set on one. A profile is one isolated browser, with its own fingerprint, proxy, cookies and tabs.
You do all of this in the desktop app, under Browser Profiles.
Choose how to create it
Section titled “Choose how to create it”| Use this | When |
|---|---|
| Quick Profile | You want one profile now. You set the options afterwards. |
| Add multiple profiles | You want up to 100 profiles with numbered names. |
| New from template | Your team has a template, and you want a batch with its settings and proxies. |
| Clone | You want a copy of a profile you already have. |
| Import profiles | You have a list of profile names in a .json or .csv file. |
| Import profile backup | You have a profile exported from ExitNode. |
The last two are covered in Import, export and sync. Cloning and templates are in Organize your profiles.
If you don’t see Quick Profile, your role doesn’t allow creating profiles by hand. You may still see New from template.
Create one profile
Section titled “Create one profile”- Go to Browser Profiles, then the Profiles tab.
- Click Quick Profile.
- Type a Profile name.
- Click Create.
The app says Profile created and adds the row. The profile starts with no proxy, and with a fingerprint generated for you.

- Click Add multiple profiles.
- Set How many, from 1 to 100.
- Set a Name prefix. Five profiles with the prefix

If your plan runs out of room partway, the app tells you how many it made, such as Created 3 of 5 (limit reached).
What new profiles start with
Section titled “What new profiles start with”New profiles use the defaults on the Browser Settings tab. If you’ve never saved a Default OS, they use your computer’s operating system. See Change your settings.
Open a profile’s options
Section titled “Open a profile’s options”Click the profile’s name in the table. You can also right-click its row and click Edit Profile.
A sheet opens with its panes down the left side, shown as icons. Hover over an icon to see its name. Click Save at the bottom to keep your changes.
If the name isn’t clickable, the profile was shared with you for use only, so you can’t change it.
General
Section titled “General”| Option | What it does |
|---|---|
| Name | The name in the table. You can also hover over a name in the table and click the pencil to rename it there. |
| Status | Active or Archived. Archiving keeps a profile but marks it as out of use. You can filter by status. |
| Vetting template | The set of site checks this profile’s proxy should pass. Inherit uses the default from its group or organization, and shows which one in brackets. None turns it off. Or pick a template by name. |
| Risk policy | When ExitNode re-checks this profile’s proxy. See below. |
| Group | The group this profile is in. You change it with Move to group, not here. |
| Tags | Words to filter by, separated by commas. |
| Note | Free text. It also shows in the Notes column. |
Risk policy
Section titled “Risk policy”Inherit uses the setting from the profile’s group or organization. The other choices are:
| Choice | What you’ll see |
|---|---|
| Off | ExitNode doesn’t re-check on its own. |
| Re-vet on rotation | When you test the profile’s proxy from its row, ExitNode may move it to a better exit. You see Rotated to a cleaner exit. |
| High Quality Only | The same as above. When you test from the row, ExitNode may move it to a better exit. |
| Check before every launch | Each time you click Start, ExitNode checks first. You see Pre-launch connection check complete. |
Risk policy doesn’t apply to a profile drawing from a pool. A pool picks its own proxies. See Keep a profile on your proxies.
Proxy & location
Section titled “Proxy & location”Connection
Section titled “Connection”Connect through chooses where the profile’s proxy comes from. The list below it changes with your choice.
| Choice | What it means | Use it when |
|---|---|---|
| Proxy | One specific proxy, or Direct for none. | You want to pick the exact proxy. |
| Preset | A set of provider settings that makes a session for this profile. | You want sessions made on demand from a provider account. |
| Pool | A proxy group the profile draws from. | You want ExitNode to hand out proxies from a group you chose. |
With Proxy selected, Dedicate to this profile binds that proxy to this profile. It applies straight away, without Save.
With Pool selected, a line shows the proxy the profile is on now, and Take another swaps it for another one from the pool. This also applies straight away.
With Preset selected, you can set a location for this profile. Leave it as it is to use the preset’s location. Profiles on a preset also get Refresh IP, which asks for a fresh IP.
Keep a profile on your proxies explains the choices in full.
If a selected proxy is already used by another profile, the app warns you when you save. Click Assign anyway to go ahead.
Locale
Section titled “Locale”Languages and Timezone each have three modes:
| Mode | What it does |
|---|---|
| Auto | Sets the value from the proxy’s location. This is the default. |
| Device | Uses your computer’s own value. |
| Manual | Uses the value you type, such as en-US, en or America/New_York. |
Location
Section titled “Location”Geolocation has the same idea. Tick Auto (IP) to follow the proxy. Untick it to type a latitude, longitude and accuracy in metres.
Fingerprint
Section titled “Fingerprint”These options set what the browser reports about its device, such as operating system, graphics card and screen size. Most people never need to change them. See Fingerprints.

Profiles made from a template
Section titled “Profiles made from a template”A profile made from a template shows From the template name at the top of Startup & bookmarks and Extensions. Those settings belong to the template, so you can’t edit them here.
To change them, click Unlink, then confirm. The profile keeps its current values and stops following the template.

Section titled “Edit from the table”You don’t always need the sheet.
- Rename: hover over the name and click the pencil. Press Enter to save, or Esc to cancel.
- Notes: click the Notes cell, or Add note.
- Tags: click the + in the Tags cell, or the x on a tag to remove it.
