Import, export and share profiles

This guide shows you how to move profiles in and out of ExitNode, how a profile follows you between devices, and what teammates see once you share one.

Your role needs Export profiles and cookies turned on. Without it, Export doesn’t appear.

One profile:

  1. Right-click the profile and click Export.
  2. Choose where to save the .exora.json file.
  3. Read the warning and click Export.

Several profiles:

  1. Tick the profiles.
  2. Click Export in the bottom bar.
  3. Click Export in the warning.
  4. Choose where to save profiles.zip. It holds one file per profile.

Export files contain the proxy’s address, username and password in plain text. Keep them somewhere safe.

The file has the profile’s name, operating system, status, notes, tags, start URL, launch arguments, bookmarks and proxy.

It doesn’t carry the saved session, so cookies and logins stay behind. An imported profile gets a fresh fingerprint for its operating system.

Click the arrow beside Quick Profile, then choose one:

Choice Use it for File
Import profile backup A profile you exported from ExitNode. .json
Import profiles A list of profiles to create. .json or .csv
  1. Choose the option.
  2. Pick the file.

The app says Profile imported, or how many it imported and skipped. Imported profiles count toward your plan’s limit.

When a profile closes, ExitNode saves its session. The button shows Uploading… while it does. The next time anyone with access starts that profile, on any of their devices, it opens with that session.

A profile can only run in one place at a time. While it’s open somewhere else, its button shows In use and you can’t start it.

Persistent tabs follow the profile too. See Cookies, extensions and tabs.

To go back to an earlier version, see Organize your profiles.

You can share one profile with a person, or a whole group with several people.

  1. Right-click the profile and click Manage Access….
  2. Pick a member from the list at the bottom, and a level.
  3. Click Add.
Level What they can do
Use Run the profile.
Manage Also edit, delete and share it.

To change someone’s level, use the dropdown on their row. Remove takes their access away. Changes apply straight away.

Until you share it, the dialog says Not shared yet. Only you and your organization’s managers can use it.

See Members and roles. Moving a profile into a group with members gives them access, and the app warns you first.

When you share a profile, the other person’s list updates by itself and they see a message:

Message What changed
“Name” was shared with you They now have the profile.
N profiles were shared with you They now have several.
You no longer have access to “Name” You removed their access.
You can now edit “Name” You raised them to Manage.
“Name” is now use-only for you You lowered them to Use.

On a profile shared for Use only:

  • The name isn’t clickable, and there’s no pencil to rename it.
  • Tags and Notes can’t be edited.
  • The right-click menu leaves out Edit Profile, Import Cookies…, History & Restore…, Move to Folder…, Tags…, Manage Access…, Regenerate Fingerprint and Delete.

They can still start and stop it.

To see who has access at a glance, click Columns and tick Sharing. It shows Private, or the number of users.

“Import failed” The file couldn’t be read. Check that it’s the right type.

“unsupported_schema” The file isn’t an ExitNode profile export.

“Profile limit reached (N)” Your plan’s limit is full. Delete profiles or change your plan.

“Profile is already in use” Someone else has this profile open. Wait for it to close.

“All eligible members already have access.” Everyone in the organization who can be added already has access.
