Add and organize your proxies
This guide shows you every way to add proxies to ExitNode, and how to organize them. ExitNode doesn’t supply proxies, so you bring your own from any provider.
You need permission to manage proxies to add or change them. Without it, you can see and test what’s been shared with you, but you won’t see the + button.
Groups and presets
Section titled “Groups and presets”The left side of the Proxies tab is headed Presets & groups. It has two tabs, and they’re different things.
| Proxy groups | Proxy presets | |
|---|---|---|
| What it is | A fixed list of proxies you keep. | Provider settings that make sessions when you need them. |
| Holds proxies? | Yes. | No. Sessions are made when a profile uses it or you test it. |
| Kinds | Static. The badge also shows Sticky or Mixed by what’s inside. | Sticky (the same IP for a while) or Rotating (a new IP per request). |
| Can be tested? | Yes. | Sticky yes. Rotating no. |
| Can be a pool? | Yes. | No. |
All proxies shows everything. Ungrouped shows proxies in no group.
Choose how to add
Section titled “Choose how to add”Click the + beside Presets & groups. The New preset or group dialog gives you two choices.
| Choice | Use it when |
|---|---|
| Pick a provider | You have an account with a supported provider. You pick where sessions exit and how long they last. Makes a preset. |
| Paste proxies | You have proxies as text. One gateway makes a preset, and a whole list makes a group. |
You can also bring in proxies from a test run. See Test proxies for a site.
Paste proxies
Section titled “Paste proxies”-
Click Paste proxies.
-
Paste your proxies into Paste your proxies, one per line. These formats work:
user:pass@host:porthost:port:user:passscheme://user:pass@host:port -
Click Analyze. The app tests a sample from this computer and reads the details.
-
Check the result. The heading says Here’s your proxy group or Here’s your proxy preset.
| Field | What to do |
|---|---|
| Name | Change it if you like. |
| Location | Shows where the proxies exit, and how many are elsewhere. Click [change] to adjust how it’s targeted. |

| Type | Shows the proxy type. If it says Pick a proxy type (required), choose Residential, Datacenter, Mobile, ISP or Other. |
| Add more proxies | Opens a box for more lines. |
- Click Create. The app says Group created or Preset created.
If you see “N of M checked proxies connected from this computer.”, some of the sample didn’t answer. All your lines are still added, so test them afterwards to find the bad ones.
A pasted gateway from a known provider
Section titled “A pasted gateway from a known provider”If you paste one gateway from a provider ExitNode knows, the heading says Here’s your preset. A line tells you what it found:
| Message | What it means |
|---|---|
| This is your account account. | It matches an account you’ve saved. |
| The password for account changed. Update it? | It’s your account, with a new password. The button reads Update password & save as preset. |
| New provider credentials. | It’s not saved yet. Name it under Account name. |
Then set the same options as a provider preset, below.
Set up a group by hand
Section titled “Set up a group by hand”Use this if you want to set every field yourself.
- Click Paste proxies, then set it up manually.
- Fill in:
| Field | What it means |
|---|---|
| Name | Required. |
| Kind | Static, Rotating or Sticky. You can’t change it later. |
| Type | The proxy type. Optional. |
| Label | A note that shows as a badge, such as US res, provider X. Optional. |
- Fill in the part for your Kind:
| Kind | What to enter |
|---|---|
| Static | Proxies (one per line), and Profiles per proxy. With 1, proxies are never shared when profiles draw from this group. |

Section titled “Pick a provider”-
Click Pick a provider.

On Account, pick a saved account, or Add credentials:
- Account name: your name for it.

|---|---|
| Mode | Sticky keeps one IP for a while. Rotating gives a new IP per request. |
| Location | Country, and state and city where the provider has them. |
| Create one preset for each state | Tick states to make one preset each. They’re named for you. |
| Session length | Type a number and pick minutes, hours or days, or use a shortcut such as 30 min or Max. Blank uses the provider’s default. Sticky only. |
| Preset name (optional) | Blank generates one from the settings. |
| Default count (optional) | How many sessions to make by default. |
- Click Check & save for a new account, or Save for a saved one.
Change a group or preset
Section titled “Change a group or preset”Select it on the left. The header shows its details and buttons. You get the same actions by right-clicking it on the left.
| Button | Right-click item | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Test | Test Group | Opens a test run on it. See Test proxies for a site. |
| Generate sessions | Generate Sessions… | Makes session lines and copies them. For presets with a template you pasted. |
| Edit | Edit… | Changes its settings. |
| Duplicate | Duplicate… | Makes a copy with the same settings. |
| Access | Manage Access… | Chooses who can use it. For presets on a saved account. |
| ⋯ Delete | Delete Group | Deletes it, after asking. |
For a preset, the right-click items say Test Preset and Delete Preset.
Deleting a group removes the group and its proxies. Deleting a preset means profiles using it lose their proxy. If profiles or templates use the group, the confirmation says so.
Generate sessions
Section titled “Generate sessions”Generate sessions makes session lines from a sticky preset, so you can use them elsewhere.
- Click Generate sessions.
- Set Count, up to 64, and Lifetime (sec). Leave the location as it is to keep the preset’s.
- Click Generate & copy. The lines appear under Generated URLs, and they’re copied.
- Generate more starts again. Close finishes.
Add to or remove from a group
Section titled “Add to or remove from a group”- Select the group and click Edit.
- Type new lines under Add proxies (one per line).
- To remove one, use the button on its row in the list above.
- Click Save.
A rotating preset is one gateway, so you can’t add to it. Make a new one to use a different gateway.
Change a preset’s location or session time
Section titled “Change a preset’s location or session time”Click Edit, then open Location & session. If you change a rotating preset’s location, every proxy in it is rewritten, and the app asks first.
If a template uses this group as its pool, changing the location changes where that template’s new profiles connect from. The app warns you.
Change one proxy
Section titled “Change one proxy”Right-click a proxy in the table:
| Item | What it does |
|---|---|
| Test Connection | Checks it now. See Proxy checks and risk. |
| Re-test from this computer | Tests through this computer’s route, and sets what it sees as the tested result for your organization. |
| Check history | Shows its last 30 days of checks. |
| Edit | Changes Type, Name, Host, Port, Username and Password. |
| Rename… | Changes its name. |
| Customize Geo… | Rewrites the location inside the proxy’s line. |
| Copy Proxy URL | Copies the full line, with its login. |
| Disable or Enable | Turns it off or on. A disabled proxy isn’t given to profiles. |
| Delete | Removes it from your list. |
To act on several, tick them. The bottom bar offers Test, Copy URLs, Enable, Disable and Delete.
If you can’t see proxy logins, Copy Proxy URL and the login details are hidden. That’s controlled by See proxy logins under Members and roles.
Proxy accounts
Section titled “Proxy accounts”The provider logins behind your presets are listed under Proxy accounts, at the bottom of the left side. The Accounts sheet shows each one’s provider, status and number of presets.
| Status | What it means |
|---|---|
| Verified | The login worked when checked. |
| Check failed | The login was refused. |
| Not checked | It hasn’t been tested. |
Depending on your access, each row offers Rename, Update password, Show password, Access and Delete. An account that presets still use can’t be deleted.
