Keep a profile on proxies you chose
This guide shows you two ways to make a profile always use proxies you picked: one dedicated proxy, or a proxy group it draws from. By the end, a profile for example.com will only ever use proxies you’ve chosen.
The examples assume you’ve already tested proxies against example.com and put the passing ones in a proxy group called example.com. If you haven’t, start with Test proxies for a site.
Choose one
Section titled “Choose one”| Dedicated proxy | Draw from a group (Pool) | |
|---|---|---|
| What the profile uses | One proxy you pick. | Any healthy proxy in the group. |
| Who picks the proxy | You. | ExitNode, from the group you chose. |
| Works for many profiles at once | One at a time, in the options sheet. | Yes, up to 100 in one go. |
| When the proxy stops working | You pick another. A sticky proxy in a group moves to another from that group at launch. | The profile takes the next one from the pool. |
| Other profiles | Not handed this proxy by a pool. | Each gets an unused proxy. They only share if you allow it. |
| Best for | A profile that should keep one IP for as long as it can. | Many similar profiles, with less upkeep. |
Both keep the profile on the same proxy while it’s healthy.
The third choice, Preset, makes a session from provider settings rather than using proxies you chose. See Add and organize your proxies.
Use one dedicated proxy
Section titled “Use one dedicated proxy”- Go to Browser Profiles, then the Profiles tab.
- Click the profile’s name.
- Click the Proxy & location icon on the left.
- Under Connect through, click Proxy.
- In the Proxy list, pick a proxy from your
example.comgroup. - Click Dedicate to this profile.
The app says Proxy dedicated to this profile, and the hint beside the button reads Dedicated to this profile. This happens straight away, so you don’t need Save.
On the Proxies tab, the proxy now shows an arrow and the profile’s name.
If you picked a proxy another profile already uses, the app warns you when you save. Assign anyway goes ahead. A dedicated proxy only stops pools from handing it out. Someone can still pick it by hand, after that same warning.
Pick a proxy without dedicating it
Section titled “Pick a proxy without dedicating it”Do steps 1 to 5, then click Save. The profile uses that proxy, but it isn’t marked as dedicated.
Dedicate a different proxy
Section titled “Dedicate a different proxy”Pick another proxy and click Dedicate to this profile again. The old one is released.
To stop using a proxy, choose Direct in the same list, or pick another, and click Save.
Draw from a group
Section titled “Draw from a group”One profile, in its options
Section titled “One profile, in its options”- Open the profile’s options and click the Proxy & location icon.
- Under Connect through, click Pool.
- In the Pool list, pick
example.com. Each option shows what’s free, such asexample.com · 12 free. - A line says Takes a proxy from example.com when you save.
- Click Save.
Reopen the sheet to see the proxy it’s on. A line reads Now on: with the proxy’s name, IP and type.
Several profiles
Section titled “Several profiles”- On the Profiles tab, tick up to 100 profiles.
- Click Proxy in the bottom bar. To change one profile, you can instead click its Location / Exit IP cell.
- In Proxy & Location, click the Pool tab.
- Click
example.com. Each row shows:- What’s free, such as 12 free, 0 free · 4 shares left, or Empty.
- Static, Sticky or Mixed, for what’s in the group.
- The limit per proxy, and how many profiles draw from it.
- Click Save. For several profiles, the app asks you to confirm, and says how many proxy checks it will run from your plan’s allowance. Click Apply.
The app says Proxy taken from example.com, or how many profiles took proxies.
While unused proxies last, every profile gets a different one.
What you see on the profile
Section titled “What you see on the profile”In the Location / Exit IP column, a pool-bound profile shows a small tag reading Pool and the group’s name. Hover over it for the limit per proxy.
Get a different proxy from the pool
Section titled “Get a different proxy from the pool”Click Take another, in the options sheet or the Proxy & Location panel. The profile releases its proxy and takes another. This happens straight away. It only works on one profile at a time.
Let profiles share proxies
Section titled “Let profiles share proxies”By default, a group never shares. To allow it:
- Go to Proxies, then the Proxies tab, and select the group.
- Click Edit.
- Set Profiles per proxy, from 1 to 20. With 1, proxies are never shared.
- Click Save.
Profiles take unused proxies first, and only share once none is left. A new limit applies to future draws. Nothing moves off a proxy it’s already on. Changing this needs permission to manage proxies.
The group’s header shows how many profiles draw from it.
Templates and pools
Section titled “Templates and pools”Profiles made from a template draw from the template’s group. They use the template’s own Profiles per proxy, not the group’s. If you change the template’s group, each profile keeps its current proxy and takes its next one from the new group. See Organize your profiles.
Leave a pool
Section titled “Leave a pool”Choose a proxy under the Proxy tab, or a preset under Preset, and save. The app warns you that this takes the profile off its pool. Dedicating a proxy does the same.
If someone deletes the group, the confirmation says how many profiles draw from it. They keep their current proxy but stop drawing new ones.
When a pool’s proxy stops working
Section titled “When a pool’s proxy stops working”A pool-bound profile keeps its proxy until that proxy is retired or its session ends. Then it takes the next one from the pool. You see a message saying it switched, and to which proxy. See Proxy checks and risk for what retired means.
If a proxy just doesn’t answer at launch, that isn’t retired. You see Launch blocked and choose what to do.
What happens when a group runs out
Section titled “What happens when a group runs out”There are two moments this can happen.
When you assign the pool
Section titled “When you assign the pool”Nothing changes until you choose.
- For one profile, you see “No proxy is free in example.com.” The sheet stays open. Pick something else, or add proxies first.
- For several, the Not enough free proxies dialog says how many can get one. Assign N assigns those and leaves the others as they were. Cancel changes nothing.
The panel warns you before you save, such as Only 3 of these 5 profiles can get a proxy from example.com.
Later, at launch
Section titled “Later, at launch”If a profile needs its next proxy and none is left, your setting decides. Go to Proxies, then Settings, and find If a group runs out.
| Setting | What happens |
|---|---|
| Don’t launch (default) | The profile doesn’t open. |
| Launch with a warning | The profile opens on its old proxy, and you see No unused proxy left in example.com. It may run on an IP that has changed. |
A profile with no proxy at all never launches this way, whichever you choose. It won’t fall back to your own connection.
What you see when it’s blocked
Section titled “What you see when it’s blocked”The Location / Exit IP cell shows Needs a proxy.
The Launch blocked dialog opens and offers:
- Use, beside each of your other active proxies. This picks that proxy and takes the profile off its pool. The dialog tells you so.
- Take the next one from example.com, to try the pool again.
- Cancel, to leave it for now.
Fix it
Section titled “Fix it”Do any of these, then click Start again:
- Add proxies. Run another test against
example.comwith Import passing proxies on. Or add lines with Edit on the group. - Allow sharing. Raise Profiles per proxy on the group.
- Move the profile to another group or proxy.
If something goes wrong
Section titled “If something goes wrong”“No proxy is free in example.com.” Every proxy in the group is taken or unusable. Add proxies, or allow sharing.
“No other proxy is free in example.com.” Take another found nothing else to take.
“You don’t have access to example.com.” Ask an owner or admin for access to that group.
